In music, it sounds pleasant to stack thirds, we also see this pattern in the harmonic series.

Stacking three thirds is called a chord.

​

Each of the seven natural notes creates a chord, yet the quality of each chords is different.

​

Whether the thirds are major or minor determine the quality.

Tonal Gravity

​

The first chord is the tonic chord. This chord holds the most gravity and affects all the other chords and melodies sounded.
